It was cold, but not enough to keep us at camp – never that. We were sitting on the ledge above in the picture above, looking over Clear Creek Canyon. It was November 2013 in Arizona and my brother and I were with my wife scouting the canyon for elk. Her first time out on a Rowdy Family Elk Hunt. The rest of the family was elsewhere, similarly scouting, but we were here. Enjoying the moment.
We saw no elk, it didn’t matter. The view was stunning. The surrounding country was still, the air brisk. It was good to be out, it had been too long.
Things get really simple when you’re out there. Moving slow & quiet… stopping, listening hard… watching for the slightest movement – flash of antler or fur. And one more thing:
not allowing it to become so serious that we were robbed of the fun and joy to be had out there together!
I’ve been on those “serious” hunts… no good if that’s the whole of it. But it’s different when you’re having a great time AND you’re going a bit primal. Heart slows, senses sharpen, past and future give way to the now, and as my grandpa taught us long before –
whether you see critters or not, if you’re paying attention – you see & hear much. You see & hear what you need.
Well…
I’m having that same experience now as Tony & I launch Weak to Strong. At 43 (me) and 40 (Tony) years young,
We’re “On the Hunt!”
Moving slow & quiet but with fierce focus & fun… stopping when needed to watch & listen… to learn… being patient… and maybe even growling a bit!
The results? Still emerging, but exciting and WE ARE STOKED!
Why? Because this has been brewing for years and finally brought us to this point…
We need this. We’re convinced others do too. What exactly is “this?” What is Weak to Strong?
Glad you asked. It’s still unfolding, but we have part of the answer to begin this site and blogs.
It is found in the essence of belonging (watch by clicking the following image):
Turangawaewae – Maori for “Belonging Place” or “Place to Stand.”
Weak to Strong, then is first and foremost – Our Belonging Place. It is Our Place to Stand!
We felt and still feel inspired to create such a resource – not only for ourselves, but for others. A Turangawaewae that doesn’t pretend to be any more or less that what it is – what we are.
TJ is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and Tony is a Registered Nurse. Both of us practice in UT and work with youth & families in treatment and hospital settings respectively. Both of us are also sons, husbands, fathers, and middle-aged men who enjoy a variety of activities. We feel the press, grind, and “blood, guts, and barbecue sauce” of daily living.
Now in our mid-years, we recognize the truth of “if you don’t use it you lose it, and it takes longer to get it back.” So we currently fight to stay in the saddle of vibrant living for ourselves & our families.
Finally, we are both active members of our LDS faith and fiercely grateful to know we are Sons of a loving Father in Heaven and brothers of our Savior – who has “snatched” us from ruin so that we might follow his example in offering our all to those we love and by whom we are loved! Whether this encourages you to “love it” or “leave it” please – READ ON!
In declaring this, we know there are many who come here sharing differing beliefs, perspectives, and passions. Ours is not to talk you out of or into anything regarding spirituality & faith. Rather, our interest is to embrace & encourage truth. To get fierce with it in an effort to support our purpose here and the following reality:
When we are WEAK, then are we STRONG!
Individually – And – Together! So this site is to be a hub & haven for stories, people, organizations, innovative personal health & wellness ideas, tips & tricks, hacks & apps, etc. all which share the common thread of Strength found in and through -Weakness!
Again – it is not only our Belonging Place, it is yours! It is not only our Place to Stand, it is yours as well! We hope you’ll come often and look for up and coming products and services that help you remember a bit more of your own strength and to be a little more accepting of your weakness. After all, one provides the fertile ground from which the other can grown! And if you like what you see and what to be a part of Weak to Strong as it gets going, please head over to our Face Book page and let us hear from you there as well!
Take care!
